Dosage and direction
Adults: The usual adult dosage is 1-2 grams per day administered as a single dose or in divided doses. For urinary tract infections, 1-2 grams daily in single or divided doses. For skin and skin structure infections, 1 gram daily in single or divided doses.
Children: 30 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 12 hours. For pharyngitis and skin infections, the total daily dose may be given as a single daily dose or in divided doses.
The medication may be taken without regard to meals. Complete the full course of therapy even if symptoms improve before the medication is finished.
Precautions
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment; dosage adjustment required
- May cause false-positive reactions for glucose in the urine with copper reduction tests
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms
- Use with caution in patients with history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis
- Prescribers should consider switching to alternative therapy in patients who develop diarrhea during treatment
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to cefadroxil or other cephalosporin antibiotics

Missed dose
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress, and diarrhea. In case of suspected overdose, contact poison control or seek emergency medical attention immediately. Treatment is supportive and symptomatic. Hemodialysis may aid in the removal of cefadroxil from the bloodstream.
Storage
Store at room temperature (20-25°C or 68-77°F). Keep container tightly closed. Protect from moisture. Oral suspension should be stored in refrigerator and discarded after 14 days. Keep out of reach of children.
